PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The students have started the state testing called CAASPP and I know that it causes some feelings of anxiety for the children and for you as parents. I recently saw a comment that another principal made on Facebook that really rings true. I thought that I’d share it with all of you. Please remember, amongst the students who will be taking the exams there is an artist, who doesn’t need to understand Math. There is an entrepreneur, who doesn’t care about History or English literature. There is a musician, whose Chemistry marks won’t matter. There’s an athlete, whose physical fitness is more important than Physics. If your child does get top marks, that’s great! But if he or she doesn’t, please don’t take away their self-confidence and dignity from them. Tell them it’s OK, it’s just an exam! They are cut out for much bigger things in life. Tell them, no matter what they score, you love them and will not judge them. Please do this, and when you do, watch your children conquer the world. One exam or a low mark won’t take away their dreams and talent. And please, do not think that doctors and engineers are the only happy people in the world.

Watch Our Writing Grow

Over the last few months the children have been writing Informational and How To pieces and we want to celebrate all the work that they have done. The teachers have done an amazing job getting the kids excited about reading, and writing topics they know a lot about. Children have spent time planning, drafting, and revising their work. Teachers have been conferring with students about their writing and supporting their skills progress. I'd like to encorage you to take a few minutes and read some of the pieces that are on display. We don't have everyone's writing posted, but you will get an idea of the work that is going on across the grades.
